At the age of twelve, she chose to join the Bund Deutscher Mädel (League of German Girls), as did most of her classmates. This attempt to save their friends from persecution failed in the end, and Willi Graf, Alexander Schmorell, and Kurt Huber were arrested later in February and put to death shortly after.
